Gypsum Powder - 400gms

Gypsum, (also known as Calcium Sulphate), is used as a water treatment in full grain brewing, where the calcium helps to lower the pH level (increase acidity) of the mash, coagulate proteins (reduce haze and promote clarity in the finished beer) and enhance the yeast action, whilst the sulphate contributes to the bitterness and can impart a sharp, dry flavour to your brew. This medium size tub contains 400gms.
 
Many brewing recipes advocate the use of Gypsum when brewing Light Ale, Bitter, Pale Ale, Strong Ale or Barley Wine, usually at the rate of 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons, you should always check your recipe prior to use.
 
It can also be used as an aid to sherry fermentation where 1oz is added per gallon at the start of fermentation.
