Wine Kits - Colchester Homebrew Supplies

In the 1980s and 1990s when Sam and I first started making them, home wine making kits tended to be available as Red or White wines and were categorised as Sweet, Medium or Dry. Nowadays, just as commercial wine producers have changed the way they describe their wines and have moved towards using readily identifiable grape varieties, so the home wine making industry has responded and has moved away from cheap grape concentrates, often bolstered with fast fermenting apple juice, and has introduced a wide range of "varietal" wine kits that match the styles and flavours available from commercially produced wines.

We stock a selection of red, white and rose wine kits, in both 6 and 30 bottle sizes, in some of the best known grape varieties and styles such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Shiraz, Nebbiolo (Barolo), Pinot Noir, Rioja and Malbec, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, White Burgundy and Gerwurztraminer, White Zinfandel, Grenache Rose and Chablis Rose. The more grape concentrate the kit contains, the richer and fuller the flavour will be, so if you want a light bodied, easy drinking, "barbecue style wine", go for those that have the lowest grape concentrate (and may require you to add extra sugar), if you want a full bodied, deep rich flavoured, "sipping wine" that won't be overpowered if you drink it with heavy meals or meals with rich sauces, go for those with the higher grape concentrate levels.
