An excellent all-round hop with good Alpha Acid and aroma properties that can be used as a main copper hop to give a refreshing, full bodied bitterness or as a late addition hop where it produces a crisp, fruity character which has proved popular in many beer styles.
Grown mainly in Hertfordshire and Worcestershire, with some grown in Kent and Belgium.
Challenger hops feature in many of Graham Wheeler's recipes including Adnams Broadside, Batemans XXXB, Jennings Cocker Hoop, Morlands Old Speckled Hen and Theakston Old Peculier.
Its typical alpha acid levels are 7.0-10.0% depending on the harvest, so you may need to adjust the amounts used in your recipe to ensure that you match the target EBU value.
