A rich, full bodied dark American Mocha Porter which uses 3kgs of Malt Extract and 600g of Brewing Sugar (provided) to produce 30 pints at an average ABV of 5.8%. Fermentation, using the specialist American Yeast strain provided, will take approximately 10 days depending upon the ambient temperature, and the finishing gravity will be around 1008-1010.
It is designed to be a combination of two traditional beer styles - a Coffee Porter and a Chocolate Stout and as the reliance is on the malt to provide all the flavour, there are no additional finishing hops with this kit, unlike the rest of the Youngs American craft range.
The kit includes a pack of priming sugar which is sufficient for bottling at standard rates. If barrelling the beer, it may be safer to use only 75g of it. The beer will be ready for drinking as soon as it has cleared, but it will be at its best if you can leave it to mature for around 4 weeks after bottling or barrelling and if consumed within 3-4 months of manufacture.
